The engagement ceremony typically takes place a few months before the wedding and is performed in the presence of family and friends. The ceremony starts with the exchange of rings between the bride and groom, which symbolizes their commitment to each other. After the exchange of rings, the families of the bride and groom exchange gifts, such as clothes, jewelry, and sweets. The bride's family presents the groom with a set of clothes and jewelry, while the groom's family presents the bride with clothes, jewelry, and other gifts. A traditional engagement ceremony in Hinduism may also involve the exchange of coconut, which is considered a symbol of prosperity and fertility.
