Puja Description

In Hinduism, the engagement ceremony, also known as Sagai or Sakharpuda, is a significant event that marks the formal announcement of the upcoming marriage. It is an occasion where the families of the bride and groom come together to exchange gifts and blessings, and to celebrate the union of their children. The engagement ceremony typically takes place a few months before the wedding and is performed in the presence of family and friends. The ceremony starts with the exchange of rings between the bride and groom, which symbolizes their commitment to each other. The exchange of rings is a special moment filled with emotion and significance as the couple takes the first step towards their life together. After the exchange of rings, the families of the bride and groom exchange gifts, such as clothes, jewelry, and sweets. The bride's family presents the groom with a set of clothes and jewelry, while the groom's family presents the bride with clothes, jewelry, and other gifts. A traditional engagement ceremony in Hinduism may also involve the exchange of coconut, which is considered a symbol of prosperity and fertility. The couple is given a coconut to break, and it is believed that the number of pieces the coconut breaks into is an indication of the number of children the couple will have. In some regions of India, the engagement ceremony also includes a ritual called 'tilak,' which involves applying a red vermillion mark on the forehead of the groom. This ritual is performed by the father or brother of the bride and is considered a sign of acceptance of the groom into the family.
